Welcome to the Health Professions Mentor Program (HPMP). HPMP provides UCSD undergraduates the opportunity to form a relationship with a UCSD or community health professional who will serve as a mentor to assist in preparation for a future career in one of the health professions. HPMP provides health professionals the opportunity to mentor bright and talented UCSD students as they develop and grow into the health professionals of the future. Please choose the option above that best describes you to learn more.

The Health Professions Mentor Program has been revamped for 2016. Registration is now open! Thank you for your patience as we implement the NEW Health Professions Mentor Program.

  • Due to increased restrictions on shadowing in UC San Diego Health Sciences facilities, participation in HPMP by UCSD health professionals will consist of building one-on-one mentoring relationships with their mentees. Shadowing opportunities may still be available from certain health professionals and those not affiliated with UCSD.
  • Students will pick the health professional they would like to have for their mentor.
  • Each student will be guaranteed one meeting with their mentor. Future meetings can be arranged by mutual agreement.
  • Each mentor/mentee pair will work together to decide the parameters of the mentorship.
  • The mentoring relationship can continue year-round, up until the student has been accepted into professional school. However, either party is free to conclude the mentorship at any time by notifying each other and the coordinator by email.
  • Verification of participation in the Health Professions Mentor Program will be available for mentors’ personnel files and for mentees’ health professional school applications.
